Soup for the Soul

A stray thought on a winter’s day

heaves its way into a bay.

Fuelled and burnt, and a little stir:

it simmers soon like a summer sea.

Within lie nuggets that toss and swirl,

hitting the crusty bed.

They rise, they toss, they hurl themselves,

against a bunch of leaves.

Fragrant vapours waft along

on the wings of a winter breeze :

The fading sunlight streams in,

the glassy berm gleams.

Showers of pepper twirl

and fall: the salty mist dances.

The shores arrive, the waters lead

into the tureen bowls.

The soul is fed, the heart too –

there is warmth everywhere :

A little thought that found its way

into the waiting bay.
