I Am Sorry …

Chembur, Mumbai

Amar had bent down to pick up the newspaper when he saw the folded sheet. He opened it .

“Sorry,” it read.

He frowned. A prank? He turned towards his wife. She was seated in her armchair, staring blankly as always. She would never recover from their daughter’s death.

Delhi University

Shikha limped hurriedly towards the lift. She was late for class. As the doors were about to close, a note was shoved in. She picked it up with the help of her crutch.

“Sorry,” it read.

Must be Mayank, she thought. She had scolded him for not submitting his assignment.

Maidan Ground , Kolkata

Vishal had finished his cricket practice. He had to rush home lest his mother panicked . Ever since his father’s tragic death, she had become paranoid about his safety.

As he rose from the bench, he saw the note.

“Sorry”, it read.

He shrugged and tossed it away.

Jaynagar, Bangalore

The poison has begun to work. As the haze descends, echoes of shrieks and memories of death strutting about the city, trampling innocent victims rise. I apologise – unconditionally.  I helped those brutes. I was paid. The amount was alluring. I deserve to die. I am sorry.
